Today I was cleaning out our guest room, which is in a little free standing building across the courtyard from the house. Before I started I set her up with some puzzles and Dorothy The Dinosaur on a DVD.
When I returned I found this.
Farmgirl, All Dressed Up |
She had tipped all the puzzles out, changed into a fairy dress and was boogying right along with Dorothy.... Super cute.
Does anyone else have odd things they or their children find frightening?

I always thought my kids would be afraid of our vacuum cleaner, but none of them are. They are, however, petrified of dogs and other 4 legged animals. 2 particularly nasty dogs launched themselves at a glass sliding door at my then 15month old son (nearly 3 now), growling and snarling and barking at him. THANK GOD the door was closed, because he would have been very badly hurt. They also don't like the plug being pulled out after their bath...
Photographer Mum - Farmgirl is also scared of the plug coming out - apparently the drain growls at her too!
E is scared of the vacuum cleaner when it is turned on but thinks it is a great climbing toy when it is turned off ... and sitting in the middle of the lounge room in the hope that I might one day get around to using it ...
congratulations on 100 followers by the way!
That sounds like one terrifying children's story... Both my boys have been scared of the vacuum cleaner - great excuse for not doing the vacuuming really!

My Children are petrified of being in the bath when the plug gets pulled out, they think they will be sucked down. I tried to rationalise size differences and plug hole to child ratio, but it fell on deaf ears..
Oh yes my youngest son when small terrified of the lawn mower and my dd was petrified of Father Christmas and dressed up disney characters. We have a big laugh about this now but at the time she was mortified when walking in a shopping mall and a dressed up character should appear. She froze and hid behind me.....
My 1.5 year old will scream from one end of the house "Spider! Help!" and we'll all come running.
There's no spider. She just knows how to get everyone's attention focussed on her.
I think she'd be speechless if she saw a real spider.
Hello Farmer's Wife! So nice to meet you. Ha! My kids were always petrified of the vacuum cleaner too. It sounded like a Boeing 747 though. It was the perfect excuse not to vacuum! xx
Oh this is super cute! Great post!
My eldest son was terrified of any electronic tools my husband used to make stuff. On the other hand, my youngest rides around on the vacuum cleaner like his long lost horse. He even loves it when I'm pulling it along trying to actually vacuum. No fear, that kid. xx
Bandaids, yep Roboboy has a pathological fear of anthing sticking onto his skin. Sure made those hours spent in hospital with a drip the longest 5 hours of my life. Mowers and vaccuums? He had his own toy of each and would follow us around if we were using either.
When they were younger it was the bath water being let out - always very loud in a high set home. My boy was scared of the clowns at the Ekka too. You know the ones that move their heads and you stick the ball down their throat?
TDM xx
