Random Stuff- Rock Rakes, Roses and Verandahs.

It's time for some more heavy machinery information.  At the moment we are busy on The Farm raking rocks.  That means that a tractor pulling a big rake type arrangement drives up and down the paddock.  This collects all the rocks into a cage.

We do this often after seeding because there is a lot of rock just below the soil surface in this area.  The air seeder tynes pull these rocks up out of the ground.  If we leave them there, they get hidden by the crop and invariably go through the header at harvest time.  This is not good at all as it causes lots of damage to the headers.

The New Farm in particular is very rocky.  Look - here are the rock rakers, raking away.

Not The Most Exciting Job In The World.

On the weekend we had our friends The Hunter Gatherers come for dinner.  Mrs Hunter Gatherer gave me these roses.

Aren't they stunning?  She grew them all herself.  I had to snaffle them before Farmgirl got her hands on them.  Farmgirl thinks all roses should go straight to her bedroom because they are "so pretty".  They then invariable get loved to bits. Literally.

White, Blush and Burgundy Icebergs

When I was a little girl, I wanted to live in a house with verandahs.  Today I took this photo of The New House.

Look - It has verandahs.  And two huge lemon scented gums.

Country Style Verandah

When we move in, I am going to sit on the verandah, have a cup of tea and pretend I am in Country Style magazine.

Right now though I am going to hang a load of towels on the line.

Take care.

Gosh those roses are beautiful. Mine are all bare twigs waiting for spring.

I too long for a house with a verandah - yours looks amazing.

Grr, Blogger just deleted my comment, so I'm trying again.

The flowers look amazing! Your friend has impressive gardening skills. Please send her my way. I can't seem to get flowers to grow for love nor money.

I made your failsafe chocolate pudding again last night. It is so comforting and always hits the spot. The Pharmacist gives it his tick of approval, which no doubt means nothing to you, but in his mind is quite the accolade.

Glad to hear that seeding went well. My dad has had no friends to watch the football with in Perth because everyone has been seeding. Very tragic.

I'd love to have that bunch of roses gracing my place. Verandahs to me are reminiscent of childhood holidays in the bush, family gatherings, and a great place to watch a thunderstorm from. I hope you get lots of enjoyment from yours!

Thanks everyone. The roses have made me happy all day.

Georgie - At the moment all that is around the corner is a bit of a mess! The garden is quite rundown but has stunning dry stone walls and was obviously once much loved.

OMGoodness! Three things...

1. Growing up on a farm we didn't rake rocks, but I LOVED sitting on the tractor with my Dad when he was raking the hay.

2. Those roses are divine, I love roses!! Especially pink ones.

3. I've always dreamed of living in a house with verandahs, too. Just lovely! :)

The roses are gorgeous and so is the new house! How old is it? It looks absolutely stunning, I had a similar dream growing up. There is just something about early Australian houses with verandahs.

Those roses are fabulous and so is that verandah!

Fancy - A header is what Australians call a combine harvester. It is a big machine that cuts the head off the crop.

Ooooh, I love that verandah! Lucky girl!

You ARE a one-woman country style magazine! I am always tempted to pack in the city and move to a farm when I read your blog. What a magical place, enjoy :)

Hiya Farmer's Wife,
Gosh, life is so different at your place to mine.
The only rocks that are gathered at our place are out of my head. All my most innovative ideas are greeted with that time worn phrase.
Ring me up when your verandah is ready, I'll pop over for a cup of tea with you, tee hee. Now I like cake with ICING to go with my cup of tea after I've flown over from Townsville.
Do you get to drive the tractor?
(I left a (more sensible) reply to your lovely comment at my place.)
cheers,
Louise

I have always wanted a farmhouse with verandahs - so I am jealous. But I do have beautiful roses, I shared some the other day on my blog.

Gorgeous roses, equally gorgeous homestead verandahs. About those rocks, once you've raked, what do you do with them? Rockery? melx

Besides the fact that it serves as front porch or entry way protection, verandahs also serve as entertaining area for friends and family.
