Staying Warm. (And Staying Sane.)

It has been a long, busy week here on The Farm.  I, for one, am glad we made it to Friday.  The weather here has actually got properly cold.  To be honest, I am loving it.  Creating cosiness appeals to my inner domestic goddess.

Here are some of the cosy things I have done this week on The Farm.

Cooked up our yummy paddock mushrooms.

Yum

Eaten lots of comfort food.

Risotto

Worn my lovely new socks.  My friends at Country Road Online sent them to me.  Amazing (and of course nothing to do with the fact I ordered them a week before.)

Warm Toes Are Happy Toes.

Made gingerbread cake with lime icing to take to a friends for morning tea.

Gingerbread Cake With Lime Icing

And last but not least - kept our fire burning.

Mallee Roots On The Fire.

Oh - and I almost forgot.  Having one or two of these.

Red.

Have a great weekend everyone.

I'm in my Ughhs and full-on fleece. Chicken and mushroom soup, wood fire going too. Any chance of sharing the recipe for that delicious looking gingercake and lime icing. It's my Mum's 80th birthday lunch on Monday and I'm bored baking my usual stock in trade lemon cake. She loves ginger and lime...Kate

Would normally happily share the recipe but it is from the CWA book and I would hate to upset the CWA ladies. However if you click on this link there is a recipe that is very similar.

They don't ice it. I literally mixed icing sugar, lime juice and a tiny bit of boiling water together until it was drizzling consistency and poured it over.

And most importantly I hope your Mum has a brilliant day.

Those are fab socks, AFW. I'm in some rather pilled Explorer socks myself....

Stay warm!

Just letting you know I'm on my way to your place for a sleepover ( if you could save a little risotto and mushrooms that would be great). We are ridiculously underprepared for cold weather with no heating ( reverse cycle aircon and bar heater have both died) and a desperate lack of winter pj's. With maximum temp of 13 degrees it feels like Lapland over here. melx

It strikes me that you are such a good old fashioned type of cook.

Wow your fire is an impressive one. I miss that daily ritual.

It is pretty cold here in the highlands. Little man wont put his new mittens on, and then cries and cries as he is so cold.

Keep all warm and have a lovely weekend.

AFW, you manage to include just about everything that makes winter so enjoyable (just minus the cold of course!), the cozy socks, the cosy fire, the yummi food. It's all great!

Hope you and your family have a great weekend!

I love gingerbread but I have never even thought to have it with lime icing! Sounds like a lovely week. Enjoy your weekend!

Freezing cold over here too AFW ... and raining! Unfortunately we have sale-cattle on feed, and after an exceptionally late start am still to don the oilskin and head out. Looking at a max of about 15 here today, which is almost unheard of around here. Your beautiful winter fare looks very warming ... I have a pot of pea&ham soup on at the moment.
Enjoy your weekend.

Just visiting from Modern Country style. You've made winter look like such fun. I'm still hoping for an English summer though.

Hmmm, me thinks we have a bit in common! Love Red and Slim Dusty! We are 50 kms from the Coonawarra region, in the lower South East of South Australia.
