Anyways - I planted three types of pale pink David Austens. Over years of gardening on The Farm I have learnt not to put all my eggs in one basket. After much deliberation and careful research I chose the three varieties I thought would do well. The Farmer then went to the rose nursery to pick them up. The rose nursery man then told him I had chosen the wrong types and gave him three other pale pink David Austen varieties that would do well in our area.
Well, thank heavens for the rose nursery man as the roses are all looking super duper healthy and are about to have their first flush. Needless to say I am very excited.

The photos seem to be a deeper pink than the roses in real life. The gorgeousness is the same though.
In other garden news we had further snake sightings after my last post. Scary. (Particularly the large slithering reptile that chose to have a close look at my back door mat while I was having coffee with a friend.) I have resorted to gardening in this sort of attire. Even when it is not raining.

I don't think the Queen needs to use her gum boots for this purpose. Although as my friend pointed out - she does have all those corgies.

Thank you again! I can't believe you've had two snake scares. Honestly, I'd be packing my bags. I loath snakes. Your roses are beautiful. Which ones did you end up with? One looks like Redoute to me?

How exciting that they are about to flower....mine have just started and I have spent most of the last couple of days mooning about admiring.....mercifully there are no snakes in this neck of the Hobartian woods! Rx

Oh I love that silver cleaning trick, so easy, and works brilliantly! However make sure you use a stainless steel pot, it you use an aluminum one, the tarnish will stick to the pot too.
And your roses look gorgeous. I'm having a fab rose year, so cheering.
Your roses are beautiful! I'm jealous, mine are closing as the temps drop. But at least I'm glad to say that I haven't seen a snake in a few weeks now! I was SO glad for boots when the six-footer showed up at my door last summer, so I totally get how creepy these things are!
I cannot believe the courage all of you have ; a six-footer ! I saw one tiny inoffensive little snake at the seaside the other day and asked my neighbour to run it over NOW with his car ! Lovely roses, btw !x
