Like most people who have made it to their mid thirties, I have made lots of decisions along the way. Some good and some, ahem, not so good...
So - here we go.
1. Having The Farmchildren
I could really just repeat this 5 times and it could take all my best decision spots. Deciding to be a Mum is undoubtably the single best thing I have done with my life. I adore The Farmchildren.
2. Marrying The Farmer
It is coming up to ten years since I first met The Farmer. We were together within a few weeks, engaged within a year and married within another year. You know what? Given that I still quite like him, I'm planning to keep him!
3. Getting A Good Education
I feel very fortunate that I was able to go to Uni and get an excellent education. I think this has given me so many options in life and means that no matter what happens I am always in a position to be able to support myself and my family.
I was involved in a conversation recently with some other farmer's wives about going to Uni. One of them said that she said she wouldn't have studied if she knew she was going to marry a farmer and work with him on the farm. I disagreed with this because I really think that any education is worthwhile, even if you don't use it for its original purpose. To have your horizons broadened and to have been taught to question and analyse events around you is something that shouldn't be taken for granted.
4. Learning To Cook
I can't tell you how glad I am that my mother and Nanna taught me to cook early in life. I can now do it pretty well and it is an important life skill.
5. Not Letting Decisions And Plans Always Be Set In Stone
Over the years I have realised that I have made some decisions on the spot, in a split second and that I then went on a completely different path than I had envisaged. I made these decisions because they just felt right and I have never regretted them. Sometimes I think that, rather than me choosing my life, it chose me!

Great list....2 of yours are on my list but I only can think of 3 great decisions so far.
Esp. like no. 3! (Also have just seen funky farmboy - hilarious!)
That is one thoughtful and insightful list. I particularly like your comments around the value of education even if it hasn't been used for it's intended purpose. So many people lack thinking and problem solving skills and to have a higher education it certainly gives you the opportunity to learn higher order skills which should then be able to be transferred to many other spheres.
I have had the same conversation re. University with many other stay at home mothers and I absolutely agree with you. I wouldn't change attending university for the world. Love your list. x
I could have written this exact list. I completely agree with you on #3. Educate a woman, and you educate a whole community. We pass on the value of our education to our children, who then go on to be tomorrow's leaders (and parents).
I think an education is something everyone should have, because it shows us who we are and how best we connect with the world.
Great post :)
I just loved this post, it could so easily be my list.
My father taught me from an early age that 'knowledge is no burden to carry' and so I wholeheartedly agree with your point no. 3.
Fabulous list. Fabulous you.
I really love your post and you ahve inspired me this week to play along.
x
Great list. And so agree with you about your Uni education - say this to my daughter quite a lot at the moment.. no education is wasted - it always enriches your life. And Farmchildren - gorgeous! XX
What a wise and considered list. Totally agree about the uni side of it. It is a nice feeling knowing if Legoman keeled over that I would have a reasonable chance at providing for the kids. I think the only negative is that all those years of study did not prepare me for some of the drudgery of housewifery. Perhaps a "wife" should be provided on receipt of the Bachelor degree in order to take care of the tedious and annoying bits of life while all us girls who were told we could be anything we put our minds to are still striving for the moon. By the way, I would LOVE to see your list of ahem, not wise decisions- I'm sure they would be just as inspiring! melx
Fantastic list! I so agree with you about Uni and to have experienced it is life changing. Even as a SAHM we still use all we were taught there as we transfer our knowledge on to how we raise our kids. It becomes part of their future x
Despite the difference in our ages, my list would be much the same as yours, particularly the decision to gain a university education. In my case, that decision wasn't made until I was in my 40s with four children and I think was one of the wisest decisions of my life.
Great list - I could have written it myself! Definitely, as have many others, agree on the education point. Number 5 I agree with, although I find it difficult at times! (I'm a compulsive planner, lol).
I agree... a great list and mine would be very similar. gxo
And every time we think our lives are very different, turns out they are pretty much the same at the core. And that little similarity between farming and finance men...
Oh I just did this on my blog, what a major exercise in introspection! Very interesting.
