Routine.

I have realised this week the extent to which my family depends on routine.  As a Mum who works part time and has two young children, I run our house in a fairly organised fashion.  Things happen in a certain order and at a certain time.  Usually we do OK.  Some days are better than others, but over all we rarely descend into complete chaos.

This week, however, has been different.  The house move has obviously thrown our routine into a flat spin.  What struck me  was how The Farmchildren coped with our routine being thrown into disarray.  Or perhaps more correctly, how they didn't cope.  There was a higher than normal rate of tears and tantrums. And that was just me. The Farmchildren were definitely out of kilter for a while there.

Anyway we are all back on track now, with the majority of the house being unpacked and that horrible feeling of complete disorganisation being gone.  The school holidays are over and the rhythm of our life has returned.  All is well in this little family again.

What about your family?  How do they cope with a loss of routine?

It depends what the change to routine is.
Now that was a quick change..painting the hallway already just as you've moved in!

Yes, kids do love routine. I even found that spending one day a week with the kids was even a stressful change from routine for them - because they were used to me working and them going to childcare each day!

Not very well at all and I'm the worst at handling it. I must admit, school holidays is okay. As long as the other 'stuff' goes according to plan. You know, breakfast, morning tea, lunch, organised trips, dinner, bath and bed. If you've got that good background routine, just about anything can be thrown in and the kids will adjust.

Love the look of your home. It's just wonderful.

Thanks everyone - Carol, I must admit we had the house painted before we moved in. It was empty for a few months and needed some maintenance!

generally - we cope better with some kind of routine. it doesn't need to be too rigid - but something.
I do hope all is more peaceful soon!

My Mum was huge on routine and even though I only have myself to organise, I still have a fairly strong routine going. If something happens (like the hot water pipe freezing this morning) it throws me completely out of kilter.

BTW, I LOVE your hallway. It is the type of house I would adore but will never find in Canberra because everything is too new.

I work 10am until 4pm each day at our business. If I happen to work longer than these hours, I find I am more organised at home. I tend to throw on an extra load of washing, make sure I fold it straight away instead of leaving it.
I am a lunch box/school uniform Nazi (is that PC?) in the mornings so that routine is firmly in place. All in all, I would say I have a very good routine worked out.

Glad to hear things are falling into place.

Our routine has been nullified this last 2 weeks too. Now trying hard to put it all back in place.

Wishing you a quick visit from setting up house fairy.

Love your hallway arch. Yes, routines. Despite years of me fighting it, I have given in and everyone else is happier for it. melx
