Not to worry though. We got the plane contractors in. Look - a little yellow plane.
Plane - Near Filling Station |
We had three of them here yesterday spreading fertiliser onto some of our lower lying paddocks. They fly very low and it is quite spectacular to watch. I couldn't get any photos yesterday as we were in the wrong spot. Here's one from a few years ago though, so you get the idea.
Dinky Little Yellow Plane |
Flying planes like these is one of the most dangerous jobs in Australia. My heart is often in my mouth when I watch how low they fly and how quickly they bank upwards again.
Canola flowers have got such an intense yellow colour. It almost looks artificial in its sheer yellowness. It's not though.

Love flowering canola. My weekend involved some canola crop too (which is a bit unheard of in my neck of the woods). We swore we could see a patch of yellow on some nearby hills and thought who on earth is growing canola?! Went for a big meandering drive to try and find it and sure enough it was canola!
Yellow is such a happy colour! How wonderful to be surrounded by it :) You do live in a very beautiful part of the world.
Nothing prettier than standing in a canola field fully surrounded by yellow on a sunny day. Spectacular. We have canola here down south in SA too.
I have also seen those crop-dusting planes - kamakaze idiots!
Cheers - Joolz
Canola looks great. Hope you're in for a good season!
I love canola, and adore driving through the canola plains. Here is a page that I did about the canola in the Wimmera. I would love you to take a look at our photos.

Hope you have a great season, realising there is still such a long way to go.
Ciao
Loving yellow at the moment as well, for the first time ever I think! Sunshine and wholesomeness! xx
Loving the sight of that canola field. If that was mine I would drag my whole family out into the middle of it and take few photos knee or thigh deep in the stuff. Gorgeous. melx
I used to love driving out past Cowra and see the patchwork of yellow canola and the purple of Pattison's Curse..not ideal I know but so pretty. Your canola looks so amazing sandwiched in between the red earth and the blue sky!
I love canola, such a gorgeous colour and the whole field of it looks amazing. My daffodils might compete on the colour, but they can't on the scale.
I remember the first time I saw canola in flower. It was 1986 from Mad Dog Morgan's Lookout at Walla Walla - it took my breath away. It still amazes me that such a tiny flower can put on such a spectacular show.
Luv Canola when its flowering!!! Reminds me of driving to the Dowerin Field Days with my parents!!!
I cook with canola oil!! Hooray for the canola growers!!!
I love driving in the country when the fields of canola are in flower. It is so beautiful. Thanks for sharing your photos. xxx
The contrast between the red earth, yellow flowers and blue sky is beautiful. I've never seen canola fields in real life, but your photos have given some idea of how picturesque they are. I love yellow any time of year, but especially when it's late Winter, because it's so uplifting.
