What Did That Pav Ever Do To You Country Road?

The new Country Road catalogue arrived this week.  It's the Christmas one and full of lots of tasteful Country Road Christmasness.  Things like red and white striped deckchairs, wooden fishing rods and vintage tennis rackets.  Not a fluoro insulated picnic bag to be seen.

Anyway - that's all well and good and I have never hidden the fact that I am a huge fan of Country Road, particularly their customer service which I have always found to be brilliant.  But this year I am very concerned.  They have styled a pavlova.  Yep - not just slathered on a stack of cream and thrown some berries on top.  But styled it.  And because it is Country Road it is styled with natural looking wooden popsticks.

See.

It is like a hedgehog pavlova.  I think, on very close inspection, that the postick thingos are actually spoons.  Maybe??? Not sure.  Regardless I don't know if I am up to the task.  If Country Road has started styling their pavs does that mean I have to?  My pavs have always been more of the low maintenance variety.  Any cracks are just doused in cream and then berries/fruit/chocolate thrown on top for good measure.

Like this.

Pav With Cream As Spack Filler

Oh dear - what to do?  I can handle wooden tennis rackets and wicker baskets but I am going to fail on the massacred pav.  Oh well.

The arrival of the Country Road catalogue has definitely signalled the start of Christmas celebrations here though.  The tree is going up this weekend and we are all Very Excited.

Incidentally Country Road people, thank you for my "spend and save" voucher.  As I am sure your online people are aware, I have already used it.  I hopped on the website to buy one nightie and managed to buy a nightie, a dress, a dress for Farmgirl and some shorts for The Farmer.  So I've got the "spend" bit covered.....

I am sure that is why cream is put on pavlovas - to act as spack filler! And yours looks every bit as good a the CR one!

It's UnAustralian not to love a pav. What will you buy from CR? I don't shop there but agree they make everything look gorgeous x

Haha - this post is gold. TBH I don't really like CR's styled pav... yours looks so much more delicious, and Australian!

Yours looks far more enticing to me - I wouldn't know where to cut into the Country Road one. Yes Christmas is approaching far too quickly and I haven't even started any preparations! Enjoy your weekend x

At a guestimate 50% of the clothes in this house are Country Road... but that pav is ridiculous! We had a good chuckle at it last night! Apart from the pav though I love their styling! x

Yes your pav looks much better. Paddlepop sticks in a pavlova is not a good look!!

Bush Belles - Couldn't agree more.

Jooz - Thank you!

FF - I got a sarong dress (which doesn't look sarongish at all) and a nightie. Farmgirl got a red and white striped maxie and The Farmer scored some boardies... I like the reds they have this year.

it'sanaddiction - Love it when someone thinks a post is gold. Just love it.

Amanda - The popsticks are a bit disconcerting.

Emma - I love their styling too. I think the sticks are spoons and it is a communal pav. I would be very worried about double dipping.

BBM - Thank you too.

Oh no, that's ridiculous! I admire your attention to detail as I saw the catalogue and didn't even notice the massacred pav. I do like a pav topped with plain strawberries or with the combination of fruit you've done though as opposed to a passionfruit or kiwi topping. The sticks need to go. Have a great weekend! Mel

Their pav looks silly, yours is so much better.

I agree they normally do a good photo shoot. But their clothes don't last and are overpriced. Oh yeah. Take that Country Road! When I buy something from there that actually lasts, I will take that back.

Ooh I'm getting all ranty now. I really only wanted to say your pav looked great! Mine are always flat. I pretend it's deliberate and call it "flatlova" but I don't think anyone is fooled. x

This Mid 30s Life - I have had the odd flat pav I must admit. I think CR clothes improved a stack a few years ago - or maybe I am just buying different stuff to you!

I think your pav looks much better and less contrived!

I need to rediscover CR I think...

I think that's a great idea to put spoons all over the pav..a good way to serve it. No double dipping though. It would be a lot of fun with a crowd though.

The country road pav looks like some weird kind of voodoo doll.

In our house of fussy people, pav never comes assembled. You have the meringue, then cream in a bowl and various fruits in other bowls. That way the fussy people only assemble the bits they like. Personally I add everything.

I don't think I'd ever order pav with a side of paddle pop sticks... much rather an extra dose of cream. Off to check out those striped deckchairs... gxo
