Home Again.

We are officially back from The Beach.  I am very glad to be home and we have spent the day getting organised and settling in.  The Farmchildren have had a brilliant time rediscovering all their toys and I have had a brilliant time in the laundry trying to tame a mountain of washing.

Several big thunderstorms passed through while we were away.  Our house has fared really well but some of the sheds have lost some sheeting and there are trees down everywhere.   We went for a drive today and discovered that one of our water tanks had blown off its base and landed smack in the middle of a dam.  I guess it saves on plumbing in a way. I am not going to complain too loudly though, as some of our friends lost most of the roof from their 100 year old homestead....  Another friend lost every plant in her garden.

I now have the enviable task of getting out my permanent marker and labeling every pencil, crayon and glue stick required for Farmboy to officially enter Year 2.  I gave up on pre-printed labels years ago and now just get busy with an Artliner....

Farmgirl is starting Kindergarten and she has a new school bag which she is taking everywhere.  She fills it up with her new lunch box and various snacks.  Whenever she gets hungry she just sits down and has "some lunch".  Her first day of kindy isn't til Friday so I am hoping she doesn't peak too early in the excitement stakes.  As a veteran of the school process, Farmboy is less excited and more laid back.  He hasn't even looked at his new school gear but is spending the day getting as much X-box time as possible. (He has been living a low tech life at The Beach House - don't feel too sorry for him though, he went swimming and fishing daily....) Once school goes back he will be rationed to restricted hours on the weekend only.  So he has a brief window of X-box access and he is making the most of it.

In other news, Herbie The Wonder Puppy has settled in.  He is spoilt rotten and growing like a little mushroom.  He is a gorgeous little dog and The Farmer and I fight over who gets to cuddle him in front of the TV each evening.  There is something very comforting about having a sleeping puppy on your lap.

He is also very handsome and knows it.  Look at him posing on the lawn.

Pretty Cute

Here he is doing his best "Blue Steel".

Yeah baby.

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend.  Good luck if you have small people in your house that are heading back to school!

For the first time since 1995, I don't have any 'small people' heading back to school!
I have just sent City girl back to Adelaide armed with some Chocolate Rolo shortbreads though...

And I may have to steal that pup!

Cheers - Joolz

I may have a little touch of puppy-envy. Having grown up with a dachshund I know what wonderful pets they are. All the best for this school year, we're one week in, so no excitement left here!

Welcome back! It's always interesting to see what's happened at the farm after you've been away on holidays - there's always a surprise somewhere! Love Herbie!!

My cousin's boy is about to start highschool, so they sent us two photos. The one with him with his backpack nearly as big as him on his first day of kindy, and with the same backpack in the same spot on the last day of year 6. It is fantastic because you can see exactly how much he has grown up.
