Dinner Party Stuff.

Quite by accident The Farmer and I wound up having a dinner party for 16 last night.  Well, not completely by accident obviously, but it was one of those occasions that just got bigger and bigger and we decide to roll with it.  It was a fantastic opportunity to catch up with lots of our friends whom we hadn't seen much of this summer as we were away.  And anyway we love a good party here at The Farmhouse, so any excuse will do.

Before anyone thinks I am superwoman, I will point out that our guests all helped by bringing a salad, pudding or nibbles.  Our menu consisted of slow roasted lamb shoulder with lemon, white wine, rosemary and garlic.  (This is my "summer" version of lamb shoulder.)  The Farmer told everyone he cooked it, which was quite plainly rubbish, and I heard him telling our guests exactly how much wine he put in (half a bottle apparently).

We had lots of gorgeous salads.  Pudding consisted of chocolate brownies, meringues, a beautiful peach tart made by a friend, cream and berries.  I seem to always trot out some version of meringues/pav for summer parties.  I sometimes wonder if our guests get sick of it however the one time I made something else our friends were disappointed as they had been looking forward to pav all day!

Anyway, as usual, I took no food photos as there was too much going on by the time the food came out.  I did manage some photos of the table beforehand.  My garden is tired and crispy after a very hot January so I resorted to young eucalyptus leaves instead of flowers.

The Half Dead Gum Leaf May Be A Bit Too Casual....

Overall we had a fantastic night.  There were kids everywhere and Farmboy excelled himself by taking an accidental swim in our fish pond....

Although I forgot the food photos I did snap this one after everyone had gone home.  Think we need to take the Christmas lights down!

Dinner Is Done

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

16 for dinner and kids too? Very impressive! I love the gum leaves down the table - they have a great leaf shape (only the standard droopy leaf around my suburb I'm afraid). I always love a Pav too. I made the most disappointing one a few weeks ago. It didn't actually make it into the oven, rather down the sink. I think I put the sugar in too quickly, and it ended up not being nice and fluffy. So annoying. I made cupcakes instead as I'd run out of time to make another Pav. They need so long to cool down.... xx

I love the lights, don't think you should take them day. The more lights the better. xxx

Have enjoyed catching up on your NY adventures AFW. We have a tendency to think we might have a couple of people over for dinner which quickly multiplies. I always figure while the lawn's freshly mowed and the toilet's clean we may as well get everyone over! Sounds like a lovely night.

How gorgeous. I dream of large dinner parties but can only seat 6 in my tiny house. One day I hope I can host parties as great as yours clearly was.

Back home with Dad and Mum in W.A. so internet reception is rubbish and I can't see your photos. :( Will have to view them when back in Vic. Glad you had fun at your dinner party.
