Geraniums. That Many Nannas Can't Be Wrong

I have decided to devote a whole post to one of my favourite flowers.  The humble geranium.  I love everything about them.  They are pretty, dead easy to grow, incredibly tough (and as I always say it's a tough gig in The Farmhouse garden sometimes) and easy to reproduce from cuttings.  Got to love a beautiful survivor in the garden stakes.

I always think the prettiest geraniums are the ones in the lighter, pastel colours.  These also seem to be the hardest ones to find.

When I was at Bunnings the other day I hit the geranium jackpot.

Look, lovely whitey-pink geraniums.

Pretty Nanna Geraniums

I bought two healthy looking specimens.  They have been potted up in two lovely square sandstone pots. They will look perfect on either side of the verandah staircase at The New House.  My inner Nanna will be in Nanna gardening heaven if this plan works...

The label attached to these geraniums made me smile.

"Freestyle Geraniums"

Someone is trying to make geraniums much hipper by calling them "Freestyle" and using a picture of a fairly funky lady in a pair of flares.  Apparently the "Freestyle" bit means the geraniums will mass up in the pot and then flow over the edge.  Here's hoping!

I quite like geraniums myself and while we pulled out a whole bundle from the garden when we bought this house (they were pretty old and woody), we have added some new ones again. I love that pretty white one you've bought - the label made me smile :)

I was never a huge fan - but there is a lovely deep red one in our front garden (thank-you previous owners)and I have grown to really like it. It's a beautiful colour and looks awesome against the lavendar that grows next to it :)

Oh yes, they scream 'grandmother's garden' but why such a daggy reputation for such a gorgeous pretty flower?? Lead the revival, love Posie

I also love them in hanging baskets even though that's probably ultra daggy. In Italy they had heaps in window boxes and they were a different variety with masses of small flowers but I'm not sure if they are available here.

I didn't like them when I was younger either, but now I'm a big fan. Gorgeous in window boxes all over Europe! 'Nanna' really is becoming the new cool, don't you think?!

They are about the only thing I can grow. Therefore I love them. Plus they make me think of a villa somewhere in Italy...or a grandmother. Either way, they are lovely.
